Little Egypt Math Week!
Math Field Day | March 19, 2019
Each Spring, the Mathematics Department sponsors a mathematics contest, called Math Field Day, for regional high school students. Schools from the southern part of Illinois, ranging from Edwardsville to Massac County, as well as a few schools from Missouri and Kentucky participate.
NEW FOR 2019! SIU MFD WORKSHOPS
The first annual SIU MFD Workshops will be from 12-2 p.m. for any student or teacher attending Math Field Day. Exciting opportunities are offered as they particpate in hands-on workshops with Professors and Graduate Students in Mathematics, Engineering, Medicine, STEM, Geology, Psychology, Plant Biology and others. From the Egg Drop Challenge to Reimaging the Paper Crane Game to The Eagle Has Landed (Workshop Titles), students will be amazed while gaining knowledge in their fields of interest.
Congrats to our 2019 Winners - Carbondale Community High School - Solution
Come join the Leadership Development Program, SIU Math Club, and the STEM Education Research Center in celebrating pi on March 19th! The afternoon will feature a competitive recital of the digits of pi! Each participant will receive a t-shirt sponsored by the STEM center. There will be a prize for the top two competitors in each division (Grade School, High School, and College/Adult)!

Math Video Challenge
Congratulations to our winners for 2019! Carbondale Community High School
The contest continues with the Video Challenge Problem. It will be uploaded Thursday (3/21/19) by 4 pm. To show that you have solved this problem, you must prepare a video showing all the work and a complete verbal description of your reasoning. Upload the video to Youtube, and then post a link to the video on the SIU Math department Facebook page (www.facebook.com/siucmath), so it will be time-stamped.
The deadline is Friday, 3/22/19 at 4pm. The first math team with a correct video solution will receive $300.
